What is The Swag?
With the average Aussie household of four throwing away over $2,000 worth of food each year, The Swag enables people to lead healthier lives, reduce the cost of fresh produce to the household budget (by extending the life of produce), save time (longer shelf life means fewer
trips to the store!) and combat both food waste and plastic pollution.
Founded by Peita Pini, The Swag is an award-winning, non-toxic, sustainable, machine-washable, and compostable food storage and produce bag, scientifically proven to keep fruit and veggies fresh for two weeks or more in the crisper of the fridge. The Swag’s patented, multi-layer fabric combination is made from non-toxic, unbleached and unseeded cotton. The unique design allows for moisture to be pulled through the outer layers to enhance hydration, while the inner layers promote breathing and reduce ethylene build-up, so fruit and veggies keep fresh, crisp, and nutrient-dense – for longer.
In 2021, The Swag teamed up with Australia’s Applied Horticulture Research, to scientifically test the efficacy of The Swag’s design. The study compared the storage life and quality of produce in The Swag, to storing in plastic, paper and no packaging, in a domestic refrigerator. Results concluded The Swag not only keeps fruit and veggies fresh for over two weeks (and in some cases up to four weeks) but in one trial extended the storage life of fruit and veggies up to 38% longer than when stored in plastic. You can read more about the study and the incredible, proven results of The Swag here.
Since July 2018, 758,551 tons of fruit and veggies and 9,610,996 plastic bags have been saved from landfill thanks to The Swag. The fight isn’t over, and we will continue leading this important, waste and plastic-free movement.
The Swag Range
The Swag is an ethical, multi-purpose-driven business that offers a range of 100% natural, reusable and compostable and/or recyclable products for the home. From key skincare and wellness items such as the award-winning reusable face wipes, to everyday home and lifestyle items such as the award-winning bread bag, garment bag, paper-towels, multi-use tea bags and produce bags, The Swag replaces the need for single-use plastic in the home by offering a range of alternative, ethically made swap outs.
The Swag’s best-selling Starter Pack, is the perfect addition to any household. If you’re looking at ways to reduce food waste and money, then this product is made for you! The Starter Pack includes 1 Large Swag, 1 Long Swag and 2 Small Swags, each with a different coloured trim to help keep your fridge organised. If you have a small fridge and are worried the Swags won’t fit in your fridge’s crisper, simply pop the bags on your fridge shelf and dampen them every 1-2 days. The Swags will last you years and are compostable at the end of their very long lives – it’s all natural and waste-free!
The second best-seller is the Bread Swag. It was created using The Swag’s award-winning, patented multi-layered design made from 100% unbleached, unseeded cotton. The Bread Swag is reusable, machine washable, compostable, and a perfect, non-toxic alternative to plastic bread bags. The new and improved Bread Swag is ideal for storing whole loaves of artisan or sourdough bread and breadsticks, or rolls. It allows the bread to breathe naturally and not sweat in toxic plastic.
